Zuka Gumbaridze, General-Director of Formula TV, commented on jailing opposition TV CEO Nika Gvaramia, saying that in the face of heightened threats, the Georgian government has decided to launch another political revenge. According to Gumbaridze, the arrest of Nika Gvaramia shows that the case had nothing to do with law and it is only a political persecution.

"How can you evaluate this nonsense? The country has another political prisoner and here everyone should think that amid increased threats of various nature, very important geopolitical shifts in the region and threats from Russia, there is a window of opportunity that can open for Georgia and at this moment the government decides to arrange another political revenge, to arrest Nika Gvaramia on an absurd case. The article, that led to his arrest has so far been applied to handful of cases, which once again shows that this case had nothing to do with the law, as it is purely political persecution,” said Zuka Gumbaridze.

Tbilisi City Court found Nika Gvaramia guilty and sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months in prison. The prosecutor's office accused Nika Gvaramia, the founder of the Mtavari TV channel, of embezzling large amount of property belonging to the TV station, commercial bribery, forgery of an official document, as well as legalizing illegal income, while he was still the General Director of Rustavi 2.
