The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili reiterated today that Georgia will not join the sanctions imposed on Russia by the West, justifying this by national interests.

"On the very first day, today and tomorrow, I will always act in the interests of our country, our people, and no one can change this decision. It is very unequivocal.

At the political level, we have supported Ukraine in all formats, be it the UN, EU, Council of Europe, OSCE, everywhere. Joined all political messages or resolutions. In this way, our state expressed solidarity with Ukraine.

Georgia will not impose economic sanctions. I made this decision based on the national interest of our country," he said.

PM argued, when considering imposition of sanctions, we must remember that the territories of Georgia are occupied.

According to Garibashvili, the policy of the Georgian Dream is focused on peace.

"Let’s not forget, that today our country is occupied. We must take more responsibility for our people. We have fought 3 wars in 30 years, in this war, unfortunately, hundreds of people have been injured, we have tens of thousands of refugees in our own country. It must stop and we must not repeat mistakes, we must not display shortsightedness.

Our policy is based and oriented towards peace. We want peace, stability and development. This is what our country needs today. Nobody needs a war, to prevent a war, any patriotic government must do everything possible to avoid the greatest calamity and trial, which is a war, for its own country and people. I act in this spirit and with such responsibility," Garibashvili said.
