Shalva Tadumadze, a former Prosecutor General and personal lawyer to Bidzina Ivanishvili - now a Supreme Court judge - deliberated on the case which he pursued and lost while prosecutor against David Kezerashvili. The case is widely regarded as an example of politisized justice. Mr Kezerashvili was acquitted by Tbilisi City and the Tbilisi Court of appeals

The original case, relying on mere testimonies, alleged embezzling funds in military exercises with participation of Israeli specialists, while Mr. Kezerashvili served as Defense Minister.

Mr. Kezerashvili was sentenced to ten years, but the sentence was halved by an earlier amnesty.

The Supreme Court began hearing the case almost two months after PM Irakli Garibashvili threatened Formula TV founder David Kezerashvili with judicial proceedings.

Formula TV’s management associates this case to their critical editorial policy.

Public Defender pointed to the conflict of interests between the former prosecutor general and now judge Shalva Tadumadze.

France and the UK had earlier rejected the Georgian Government’s request for Mr. Kezerashvili declaring the case against him as politically-motivated.
