Rovnag Abdulaev Abdulaev, an influential CEO of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is in Georgia, supporting GD’s election campaign in areas populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis. Together with PM Garibashvili . several diplomats from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia, as well as GD candidate for Marneuli Mayor Kenan Omarov, Mr. Abdulaev visited Marneuli last week where he met most influential locals discussing support for the Georgian Dream in Marneuli and adjacent regions.
Following the meeting, hosts and Mr. Abdulaev refused to answer questions over an active support of a foreign national of Georgian Dream in Georgia’s election.
Mr. Abdulaev visited Georgia in the run up to several prior elections, reportedly upon the request of Georgian Dream leadership, directly engaging in efforts to back Georgian Dream.
SOCAR is an important employer in both areas populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis, as well as in the rest of Georgia.
