Leading Georgian CSOs, media and culture figures unveiled a new campaign in support of granting Georgia an EU membership candidate status.

The initiative comes ahead of the EU decision on whether to grant Georgia a candidate status amid growing concerns following recent steps of the Georgian Government, particularly the arrest of Nika Gvaramia, an opposition Mtavari TV CEO.

EU’s serious’ concerns are mirrored in a 20-point conditions handed over to PM Irakli Garibashvili during his recent trip to Brussels, including Mr Gvaramia’s arrest, Georgian Dream’s abrogation of the so-called Charles Michel Agreement and the failure to prosecute organizers of the July 5, 2021 mass violence against journalists.

The Manifesto, read out by writer Lasha Bughadze calls upon the Georgian Government to address the outstanding EU concerns so that Georgia’s chances to obtain the candidate status would not get jeopardized.
