Thousands of newly leaked surveillance files, attributed to the Georgian State Security Service (SSS), show diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia are also under surveillance.

One of the files contain communication of the Israeli Ambassador to Georgia, Ran Gidor with representatives of the Patriarchate of the Georgian Orthodox Church. The files include discussions between Ambassador Gidor and Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, regarding the anti-Semitic statements and sermons of Kutaisi Metropolitan Ioane Gamrekeli and other clergy.

[30.12.20, 19:11:21]: [...] Protopresbyter directly contacted the Ambassador and told him the details of the conversation with I. Gamrekeli. In this regard R. Gidor replied - “Father, I’m not the kid, it’s been years since I’ve been a diplomat. I read the Metropolitan's sermon in detail, which clearly shows the manifestation of anti-Semitism, I expected him to apologize, but he did not mention anything like that, I have no other choice and I am going to publish a rather critical letter about what happened, stressing the fact that the Georgian Church and state has not condemned the acting of I. Gamrekeli”. G. Zviadadze expressed his respect for the ambassador and the Jewish people, asked him to temporarily refrain from publishing the letter and offered to meet with the Patriarch on December 31 at 14:00, to which the Ambassador agreed.

The file includes communication of the Israeli Embassy staff getting in touch with one of the UNM leaders requesting a meeting.
