Contrary to publicly available evidence, PM Irakli Garibashvili continues to insist that all the perpetrators of the July 5 violence have been punished.

“Of course, it was very unfortunate what happened. We all condemned it, there could be no attack on journalists and it was a catastrophic mistake, but the perpetrators were punished and arrested,” Garibashvili said.

Zurab Makharadze of an extremist pro-Russian group “Alt Info” linked with Alexander Dugin, Konstantine Morgoshia, one of the leaders of the Kremlin-linked Georgian March and priest Spiridon Tskipurishvili who all called for and directed violence on July 5 have not been charged.

53 journalists were injured during the July 5 mass organized violence. One of them, a TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava died several days later.

The violence was preceded by Georgian Dream leaders’ statement attacking Tbilisi Pride March for Dignity and essentially withdrawing security protection. The mass violence occurred for many hours without any police resistance.

In the aftermath, the Baltic States of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia reportedly denied Garibashvili a visit allegedly due to the July 5 events and the open embrace of the pro-Russian groups’ leaders.
