The multi-store residential building collapsed in Batumi, Georgia, capturing 10-15 people in rubbles and debris. At least four have been rescued, including a child and an infant, though one person is reported dead. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters evacuated the population from the neighboring flats of the collapsed entrance, as well as from cars parked in the rubble.

Interior Minister of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri said that construction work was underway at the basement of the building, which might have caused the collapse. An investigation has already been launched.

"The situation on the ground is dire. The entrance to the building collapsed. We will find out what happened. According to our information, about 10-15 people should be trapped in the rubble. Two people talk to us, but they cannot explain their exact location," – noted Gomelauri.

Interior Ministry says that along with firefighters, special equipment has been mobilized on the spot. In addition, the staff of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Forensic Department are also mobilized.
