Russia-linked Violent Group Launches Political Party

Alt Info, a Russia-linked extremist group has launched a political party with an ambitious title – the Conservative Movement. The group is led by figures who led the July 5 mass violence in Tbilisi when using the pretext of the planned LGBT pride the group’s members assaulted 53 journalists for many hours one of whom died days later.

Zurab Makharadze and Konstantine Morgoshia, who previously led another Russia-linked group called Georgian March, called for violence on that day that immediately materialized. Despite abundance of video footage, none of them have been charged.

"What should we talk to Russia about when we get there? Everything will be agreed upon with you and open. We have a specific message: if the Russian Federation wants to have alliance with Georgia, we are ready not only to start a direct and unconditional dialogue, but to work to establish a partnership and alliance with the Russian Federation" said Makharadze, who was elected as the new party’s chairman said in an acceptance speech.

The July 5 mass violence was preceded by Georgian Dream leaders’ statement denouncing the Tbilisi Pride March for Dignity with which he withdraw security from it.

The mass violence occurred for many hours without any police resistance.

In the aftermath, the Baltic States of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia reportedly denied Garibashvili a visit allegedly due to the July 5 events and the open embrace of the pro-Russian groups’ leaders. PM Irakli Garibashvili continues to insist that all the perpetrators of the July 5 violence have been punished.
