An investigator of the State Security Service of Georgia Giorgi Mumladze has been identified at the crime scene during the violent assault on Formula TV founder, anchor and commentator Misha Mshvildadze.
Another man seen on CCTV footage walking together with Mumladze is also an employee of the Department.
Mumladze, born in 1998, is an investigator Tbilisi Main Department of the Service worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs before moving to the SSG. His godfather, Levan Akhobadze, is the Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia and lobbied for Mumladze’s move to the service several months ago.
Mumladze’s father, Zurab Mumladze headed Samtskhe-Javakheti Regional Department of the Operative Provision and Monitoring of the Military Police of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense, as seen in his declarations filed in 2017-2018.
Formula TV believes Zurab Mumladze transferred to the State Security Service in 2020 or 2021.
As the CCTV footage clearly suggests he followed Mr Mshvildadze after he left work on the attack day, observed the beating and left the crime scene only after that.
Formula TV has also found that three vehicles seen in the footage circling around the crime scene belong to the State Security Service.
Formula TV crew also visited the town of Khashuri, where Giorgi and Zura Mumladze live. Locals recognized Giorgi Mumladze from CCTV footage recovered after the attack and confirmed that he works in the State Security Service of Georgia.
Mumladze's identity has given further legitimacy to Formula TV's earlier report that the attack on Mshvildze was carried out by the State Security Service of Georgia.
Mr Mshvildadze was assaulted and beaten on June 27 outside a shopping mall in Tbilisi.
On June 28, his assailant posted a statement claiming he attacked Mshvildadze for offending the Church and its the Patriarch.
The statement was identical to one posted by an assailant on opposition leader Zurab Japaridze after which Formula TV learnt the attack was carried out by the State Security Service Shida Kartli Department.
