Russia-linked, radical and violent Alt Info has announced launching of an 'anti-Maidan' movement across Georgia "to prevent the planned coup d'état and a Maidan in Georgia by pro-Western groups". The Putinist group members called for the formation of squads ready to use force.

"If you want, you can call them the squads from regions or groups, volunteers, whatever you want - an organized network of people that in the event of the collapse of the system will appear in Tbilisi at once and will be able to protect our security and sovereignty, if necessary,” Shota Martinenko, an Alt-Info leader said.

Announcing an 'anti-Maidan', Alt Info also revealed plans for fundraising to mobilize such groups from all across Georgia and transport them to the capital Tbilisi.

Radical Alt Info’s initiative comes amid the Georgia's State Security Service (SSG) statement that external and internal forces plan a 'Maidan-style revolution’ in the country.

Accusing the Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Military Intelligence Gia Lortkipanidze, head of the Georgian legion Mamuka Mamulashvili, imprisoned Saakashvili’s former bodyguard as well as CANVAS, a Belgrade-based group of former OTPOR veterans of plotting a revolution, SSG claimed: “the execution of this plot is being coordinated and financially supported by foreign countries.”

The SSG also maintained that conspirators envision a situation reminiscent of the events similar to the “Maidan-style” incidents in Ukraine in 2014.

Russian government leaders and propagandists have also voiced concerns over “Maidan style” revolution plans in Georgia while praising Georgian Dream Government for its efforts to improve relations with Russia.

Alt Info was a key organizer of the July 5, 2021 mass violence across Tbilisi during which 53 journalists were beaten and one – TV Pirveli cameraman, Lekso Lashkarava died. Despite multiple calls both from Georgia’s international partners and local NGOs, Alt Info leaders have never been brought to justice.

A TV Pirveli investigation claimed the pogrom was managed by the State Security Service of Georgia.
