In a joint statement issued following the defiant interview of PM Irakli Garibashvili following Tbilisi protests, 11 Georgian civil society organizations have issued a statement calling for the charges against those arrested during the 7-9 March protests to be dropped.

Despite the release of those detained during the protests, legal proceedings against them are ongoing and may result in prosecution, in some cases.

The NGOs have also called the General Prosecutor's Office to appeal court decisions on fines against the demonstrators.

The CSOs also demand a full, objective and transparent investigation into the “use of disproportionate force by the law enforcement officers, arbitrary arrests, violence against detainees and other violations.”

A total of 169 people were arrested on administrative charges during the protests against the ruling majority's so-called 'foreign agents' law.

Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, Transparency International-Georgia, International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) Human Rights Center, Georgian Democracy Initiative, Women's Initiatives Support Group, Rights Georgia, Open Society Georgia Foundation, PHR, Social Justice Center sign the statement.
