Sergei Naryshkin, head of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, again accused the US was trying to influence Georgia's parliamentary elections scheduled for 26 October, but expressed confidence that the Georgian people would make 'the right choice'.
Naryshkin also claimed that ODIHR "at the request of the US State Department, has prepared an interim report that contains the thesis that the conditions for fair and open elections in Georgia are unlikely to exist" and that this "certainly does not correspond to reality."
"The purpose of this action is to grossly interfere in Georgia's domestic affairs, to prevent healthy, national-oriented forces from coming to power again, but I am sure that the Georgian people [...] will make the right and accurate choice," Naryshkin added.
Narishkyn had earlier expressed readiness to “help Georgia” prevent what he called a “US-backed color revolution.”
