Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili calls on the citizens of Georgia to show solidarity with Ukraine not by engaging in hostilities, but in other ways, for example, to send them humanitarian aid or to help Ukrainians who came to Georgia.

"Today, no government or the head of the government in the world calls on its citizens to go to Ukraine and engage in hostilities. I want to say it very clearly once again. On the contrary, we have heard statements from the US government, speeches from the leaders of Britain, France and Europe, where they call on their citizens to express this solidarity in another way: by sending humanitarian aid or in another form.

I join the call of world leaders and once again call on the citizens of our country to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people in another way, whether it is sending humanitarian aid, or helping Ukrainian citizens who came here," stated Garibashvili.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, numerous Georgian citizens expressed their desire to fight against Russia in Ukraine. However, Irakli Garibashvili restricted air travel for them. He and other leaders of the Georgian Dream Government suggested that it would mean involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Georgian government has also refused to join Western sanctions against Russia.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called this position of the Georgian government immoral and recalled the ambassador from Georgia.

At the same time, citizens from Russia who have escaped Western sanctions in Georgia will not face any legal or other obstacles.
